When one loses something, asking others in hope of locating the object in question is usually done in hopes of locating the object. In this case, the farmer has lost his tractor. If we apply this theory to this case, asking the query "where is my tractor?" would be an appropriate reaction, as it may lead to the eventual discovery of the tractor in question. Of course, he may have not actually "lost" the tractor, per say. He may have simply "misplaced" it.
